octoscope 0.39.0 — your last dashboard, at once

It opens on your last dashboard, not on a spinner 🐙

On a busy account octoscope's first fetch takes about ten seconds, and until 0.39.0 you spent them looking at a launch screen. Now the dashboard you saw last is on screen the moment it starts.

The footer is honest about it: "cached 3h ago · refreshing…" until the live numbers land, then it's the normal dashboard again. No card flashes and no star notification fires on that switch: those mean something changed while you were watching, not since yesterday.

Offline, it stays up and says offline · retrying · cached 3h ago. And a failed refresh mid-session no longer throws the whole dashboard away for an error screen, which it had quietly been doing since 0.1.0 🙈

Tip: the snapshot is never read or written under --public-only, so screenshot and screencast sessions look exactly as before. If you'd rather not keep one at all, dashboard_cache = false in the config turns it off and deletes it.

The part I enjoyed getting right: when to trust the file. It's used only if this exact octoscope version wrote it, with the same data layout, for the same token looking at the same account, and only while it's under a week old.

Anything else is ignored like a first run, because a zero decoded from a renamed field looks exactly like a real count.

brew upgrade gfazioli/tap/octoscope

How do you keep your dev dashboards open: one long-running tab, or quick launches all day? 👇
