NMTV is a 24/7 TV time machine. When MTV went off the air, my wife was heartbroken—so I built her a new one for her 36th birthday. 8 Curated Channels: 80s, 90s, 2000s and more. The UX: Retro UI + keyboard support for zapping. The video is the king. The "M" in MTV: Official videos, vintage ads and classic shows—no filler. Hi Product Hunt! 👋 I’m Alon, the maker of NMTV. This project started from a very personal place. My wife was heartbroken when the original MTV became... well, not MTV anymore. For her 36th birthday, I decided to build her a time machine. I wanted to recreate that magical feeling we had as kids in the 90s—where the TV was always on MTV in the background, and you could just grab the remote and start "zapping" through music channels. What started as a small birthday gift quickly took on a life of its own. I shared a prototype with a few people, and the response was overwhelming. It went viral almost overnight, proving I wasn’t the only one craving that "lean-back" 90s nostalgia. Why NMTV? While there are many playlists and video sites out there, NMTV isn't about searching or skipping. It’s about curation. I wanted to build something that feels like a real broadcast, where the video is King and the UX feels like 1996. What you’ll find in NMTV: - 8 Curated Channels: From the 80s and 90s to Rock, Hip-Hop, and Live Unplugged. - Authentic UX: A retro remote and full keyboard support for that real zapping feel. - The "M" is back: Only official music videos, vintage commercials, and 90s era-appropriate shows—no filler. - Custom Broadcasts: You can even inject your own YouTube playlists as personal broadcast tracks. @alonhmdt I was an early MTV fan. I watched the premiere of the network at just past midnight Aug 1, 1981 (staying up to sneak a peek; I was only 10.5) and was instantly hooked.

Loving NMTV so far, especially the curation feature rather than on-demand ability to pick specific videos.

REQUEST: Might it be possible to add Closed Captioning for accessibility compliance as well as for those of us who like to sing along?

Funny thing: I thought VCR MODE meant we could record videos somehow. But I see it's just a cute scratchy video overlay!

the "no search, no skip" design choice is so good. forcing the lean-back experience instead of letting people optimize the magic out of it. that's the kind of intentional friction more products need. also the story behind this is genuinely sweet

@alonhmdt I don't remember anything specifically but MTV was basically on all the time after school in the 90s :) We'd end up watching the same top hits every day on TRL and it just played whatever was popular whether you liked it or not like listening to the radio but with less options.
