NMTV - I built a 24/7 MTV time machine to save my wife’s birthday
by•
NMTV is a 24/7 TV time machine. When MTV went off the air, my wife was heartbroken—so I built her a new one for her 36th birthday. 8 Curated Channels: 80s, 90s, 2000s and more. The UX: Retro UI + keyboard support for zapping. The video is the king. The "M" in MTV: Official videos, vintage ads and classic shows—no filler. Custom Broadcasts: Add your YouTube playlists as personal tracks. Special Events: Seasonal & tribute channels.
Works on all devices. No search, no skip. Just nostalgia.

@alonhmdt I was an early MTV fan. I watched the premiere of the network at just past midnight Aug 1, 1981 (staying up to sneak a peek; I was only 10.5) and was instantly hooked.
Loving NMTV so far, especially the curation feature rather than on-demand ability to pick specific videos.
REQUEST: Might it be possible to add Closed Captioning for accessibility compliance as well as for those of us who like to sing along?
Funny thing: I thought VCR MODE meant we could record videos somehow. But I see it's just a cute scratchy video overlay!

I think that I fell in love with this launch. So nostalgic!
❤️❤️❤️
Thank you!

I love it :DDDDD German techno (mady by some Italian singer) :DD
@busmark_w_nika yeah, sing me spanish disco. cool site
NMTV
@busmark_w_nika Haha, thank you so much Nika! ❤️ That's exactly the kind of deep-cut nostalgia I was aiming for.
(Radiohead is also one of my favorites btw)
minimalist phone: reduce your screentime
@alonhmdt I sent this to more people and we agreed on that we are doomed because we love it :D
NMTV
@busmark_w_nika I am so glad to hear that. Sorry for ruining your productivity but also not sorry at all. Thank you for sharing it with your friends.

@alonhmdt This productivity disruption is welcome :D
DiffSense
that era had some dope music. how did music get worse every year since then 😂
NMTV
@conduit_design Haha, tell me about it! We definitely peaked back then. That’s exactly why I built NMTV—to create a safe haven from the 'skip' culture and modern algorithms.

the "no search, no skip" design choice is so good. forcing the lean-back experience instead of letting people optimize the magic out of it. that's the kind of intentional friction more products need. also the story behind this is genuinely sweet
NMTV
Built for someone you love. That's a different kind of energy infused in the end result. Also respect the execution on this... the nostalgia UX is solid. I totally dig it. Now... can I watch Tom Green again on this? 🤣 Cheers!

As a kid who grew up waiting for Cable to be installed in my neighborhood so I can get MTV I needed this thank you
NMTV
@terrence_kelleman That is exactly why I built this. I wanted to capture that feeling of finally having music television 24/7. Thank you for the support.
Great app, great idea. It runs in the background constantly while I work, makes me feel 15 again 😅

@matan_weksler1 Thank you! That is so awesome to hear! Any specific music video that’s forever burned into your brain from that age?
FuseBase
awwwww, that's so sweet!

Super fun app, @alonhmdt! It was very nostalgic flipping through the channels from a Metallica video, to Green Day and so on... Congrats on the launch!
NMTV
@anthony_latona Thanks Anthony, glad you enjoyed the channel flipping; since you mentioned Metallica and Green Day, is there a specific video you remember waiting for all day to see on TV?

@alonhmdt I don't remember anything specifically but MTV was basically on all the time after school in the 90s :) We'd end up watching the same top hits every day on TRL and it just played whatever was popular whether you liked it or not like listening to the radio but with less options.
