Neurture - Understand your brain, change your behavior

Neurture is a habit and behavioral change app for people that have tried everything. Neurture's AI chat routes users to research-based resources (meditations, journal prompts, affirmations) and helps users develop and maintain their own plan for change.

I'm excited and proud to be launching Neurture today! ❤️💪 Since I was just a little kid, I've struggled with how (much) I use technology, from video games to social media and beyond. At times I've found huuuge pleasure in these things but I've also been left feeling isolated or guilty. Often both of these things are true. At first it seemed like the best approach was just to try harder 😬 After working for a mental health unicorn for two years (and lots of research, therapy, podcasts, etc. etc) I found that there are great, research-based digital mental health resources...that focus on stress and anxiety. But for those seeking to change unwanted or addictive behaviors, there is a gap. Neurture helps users address unwanted or addictive behaviors using research-based methods (ACT, CBT, mindfulness, etc). It meets users where they are, helping them focus on behaviors that matter to them, whether its excessive social media use, procrastination, vaping or smoking, alcohol consumption, pornography viewing, negative self-talk, or anything else. Neurture provides trusted resources and helps you get out of your head and develop a personalized, compassionate plan for change. A few Neurture features ✅ My Map feature which allows you to develop a plan for change ✅ Meditations based on research ✅ Glossary of terms to learn trusted methods for change ✅ AI chat to get out of your head and help you iterate on your plans ✅ Journaling (including handwriting recognition) ✅ Affirmations UI to help change unhelpful thoughts You'll Love Neurture If You... • Just want to cut back on any behavior (snacking, social media, video gaming, etc) • Feel like you're addicted to something (alcohol, vaping, smoking, etc) • Feel like therapy might be "overkill" or isn't necessary • Feel therapy is not accessible (price, timing, intimidation, etc) • Want additional support in between therapy sessions Since day 1 I've been working with a few different clinical psychologists so nearly every word in the app has been reviewed by multiple licensed clinicians. Neurture is free to try! iOS: https://apps.apple.com/app/id646... Android: https://play.google.com/store/ap...

@getsiful Thank you Siful!

First of all congrats on your launch! Secondly, I'm curious how will it change my behavior if you can enlighten me.
Brady Dowling
@chrisliam Thank you! There are a couple really important features that are key. Perhaps first is My Map, which acts almost as therapy notes for yourself or a running document. It is a place to note your goals, motivations, challenges (e.g. triggers), prevention plan, and bounce back plan (I had a lot of back and forth with my main clinical researcher about each of these questions). Once you've noted down some baseline things here, it'll be helpful moving forward and engaging in conversations with the assistant. The assistant uses techniques from proven approaches like acceptance and commitment therapy or cognitive behavioral therapy. This allows you to do things like challenge unhelpful thoughts, acknowledge certain facts, and just the unhelpful thinking cycles we sometimes engage in. Then lastly, it includes a library of meditations that are really helpful for practicing mindfulness meditation. Each of these meditations is backed by research regarding behavioral change. In general, to get the most out of meditation, practicing it 4-5 times a week for about 10 minutes will get you a lot of bang for your buck. I'd love to hear any feedback you have!

💡 Bright idea
@chrisliam @bradydowling Incorporating the professionals is truly a booster for the credibility of this app. Have you considered adding the names of the professionals on the landing page ?
Zain Ul Abdin
@bradydowling Thank you for explaining I get the hang of it. I gotta say I love your idea and the theme here.
Brady Dowling
@chrisliam @aris_nakos ya great feedback! This is something I'm in the process of doing but haven't gotten it over the goal line yet. Should be there in the near future, indeed that will give it much more credibility. I'm actually planning on embedding that in the app as well so users can gain trust right as they're using it.
Zain Ul Abdin
@aris_nakos @bradydowling You'll definitely reach the goal line! just keep on it and be dedicated as your are even when there are times we lose hope. Just be motivated and keep working hard.
Mohamed Ghaith
@bradydowling Great idea for the app, I will play around with it! I really want to start implementing pause breaks inside my work day, maybe Neurture will be able to help!
Brady Dowling
@mohamedghaith Absolutely! Use the assistant and My Map to help you come up with a plan and then be able to follow through on it, should be really helpful.
Ebru
As a psychologist myself, I find your app very useful, great job!
Brady Dowling
@ebruabaz Thanks Ebru! I've heard this feedback quite a bit from psychologists, from nail biting to working on reducing snacking, it seems like a lot of people are finding a lot of value in Neurture.
Aman Wen
Clicked upvote! Can Neurture actually make the advice stick? How does it handle the ups and downs of human willpower?
Brady Dowling
@aman_wen Great question! One of the key features is that the home screen has large buttons to report that you're struggling (either that you're feeling an urge or you want to bounce back, whatever those mean to you). From there, you'll be presented with your prevention plan or bounce back plan, if you've come up with those already, or else you'll be engaged in a conversation with the assistant to help you in your current situation. Often, just being able to chat through your current state of mind can help get things out and weaken any pull toward unwanted behaviors. Then of course following through on your plan should also provide a huge boost. I'd love to know your thoughts on this though!
Oliver Alf
Very interesting approach - well done! How do you differentiate between users' different progress status in their behavior change journey?
Brady Dowling
@oliver_nexamind really good question. Right now success and progress is 100% determined and defined by the user. Many apps in this space would kep track of “days sober” or something similar but that’s not a great indicator/motivator for many people, especially those are trying to manage or reduced certain behaviors. There is a space in Neurture where users can log different events, such as a relapse, an emotion, or a victory of some kind. This is a piece of the app that I really want to get user feedback on before building it out in depth and prescribing a method of tracking for all users. In due time, I hope to give users more guidance with course content about different therapeutic modalities and approaches.
Matthias Pieringer
Congrats Brady. Looking forward to seeing how Neurture can make a positive impact on people's lives.

@matthias_pieringer Thanks so much Matthias, I've already heard some really inspiring reviews, excited to share some of those in the future!

Marc Andre
Congrats on the launch! The functionality to digitize handwritten journals looks amazing.
Brady Dowling
@marc_andre1 Thank you! This is actually a feature that I built for myself 😬 I love using pen and paper over digital journaling that I couldn't do without it. Glad to know it's appreciated by others!
Terrence Kelleman
Congrats Brady. I'm personally very passionate about self efficacy and using the tools of CBT to unlock the potential for change in individuals. Especially in an environment where mental health needs are so critical yet access is out of reach to most people. I've personally worked with Jack Trimpey who created Rational Recovery and I'm a big advocate for decoding the underlying conditions that lead to addictive behavior in the first place. Understandjng those root causes and the mechanics of addiction can be incredibly empowering to create lasting change. I've downloaded the App and will give it a go for the trial period.
Brady Dowling
@terrence_kelleman Awesome, it would be really great to get any ideas of feedback from you then. Thanks so much for giving it a try!

Incredible concept! Excited to try :)

Congrats on your launch! I'm interested in the feature My Map to work in a detailed plan 👌
Brady Dowling
@andressul It's really amazing what a simple plan can do. Each of these questions and their details had several iterations with the primary clinical psychologist I've been working with.
