Mundane Read started with a simple question: how much of the news is the news, and how much is the telling? It reads Australian news all day and, for each article, measures the loaded words, unattributed claims and editorialising, then shows a plainer version beside the outlet's own.

Three things to try:

1. The Headline Cooler (mundaneread.com/cool): paste any headline and see which words were there to make you feel something.

2. "How outlets headlined it" on any story covered by several newsrooms.

3. The Daily Brief: the day's main stories each morning, ranked by how many newsrooms reported them, not by clicks.

There is also a browser extension that shows the scores on the news sites you already read (7 articles a week free).
