The Story Behind MultiDrive’s Product Hunt Launch
This summer, we made a bold decision to launch on Product Hunt. The problem? We had zero idea how to actually do it. 😅
Well, almost zero. Our CTO @mokosiy was a massive Product Hunt fan, and his enthusiasm was our only compass. He armed us with the right stack: Cursor for code, PostHog for analytics, latest .NET and Avalonia to build the gorgeous app.
The Reality Check By August, the "Launching Soon" label we were banking on had vanished. We were flying blind. That's when the real work began. I didn't just read the guidelines; I followed them to the letter. We had to change the date of the Product Hunt launch five times. We realized that we weren't ready.
What Actually Helped Us
When you launch a product, the most valuable things are: talking to people, reading what others share on the forum, studying past launches, and asking questions in private chats.
I first discovered @busmark_w_nika (she writes a lot about PH strategy) and @byalexai, who often shares his experience in comments. I loved their discussions on the forum and sometimes joined them - it's amazing that you can ask anything and people really help!
Being active on the forum and supporting other launches helped me meet many people who shared launch strategies.
And everyone repeated the same thing: you must be present on Product Hunt daily.
How We Found Our Hunter 😄
Sounds like How I Met Your Mother, right? 😄
I started chatting with @chilarai , and he mentioned that they teamed up with @fmerian for their launch, which ended up becoming Product of the Day. I wasn’t sure whether to reach out to Flo for a few days, but eventually I posted on his GitHub thread - and got a positive reply!
Flo immediately pointed out that we needed stronger visuals: not just UI screenshots, but images that explain what’s happening so people can understand the product at a glance.
He also emphasized a clear tagline and description.
Key Things That Matter (From Our Experience)
Be active every day.
Talk to people on Product Hunt and LinkedIn. Ask the makers for advice.
Don’t wait until launch day to show up.Make strong visuals.
Images should be clearn and explain what is happenings on the screen.
Your tagline should clearly say what your product does.
And don’t forget your maker comment!Find a hunter.
You can launch without one, but an experienced hunter can highlight things you might easily miss.
Additionally, a hunter already has an audience: people read their threads and check their launches.Work on your authority early.
Start building relationships and preparing for your launch at least 3-4 weeks before.Choose the right launch day.
Saturday/Sunday: lower traffic but higher chance to win.
Monday/Friday: higher traffic, a bit tougher.
Other weekdays: difficult to stand out unless you already have strong momentum, but should be a huge traffic.
Have a clear plan for launch day.
We want to thank everyone who helped us on this journey! Product Hunt is such a huge community.
We can’t mention everyone by name, but every suggestion and every bit of support meant a lot to us.
Thank you ❤️

Oh wow, such kind words, Tetiana!
I’m truly honored to be mentioned!
I love reading posts like this! Especially when you share the real challenges and how you navigated through them. Huge congrats on your incredible launch!
And yes, that’s something a lot of people overlook! Postponing the launch date.
If you actually care about your launch, changing the date is totally normal. The only ones who shouldn’t worry about it are those just chasing a backlink. Otherwise, there’s absolutely no reason not to delay by 5–10 days if there’s a chance you won’t get featured or the product might not get the visibility it deserves. That’s wasted effort and it can be really costly if you treat Product Hunt seriously.
Hope to see you around here even after the launch!
MultiDrive
@byalexai Thank you so much! I learned a lot from the posts you and Nika shared - truly grateful for that. 😊
It’s funny because I initially thought postponing could hurt our chances of being featured, but it turned out to be the opposite! In the end, it really helped us polish everything and improve our strategy.

Congrats on reaching #1 Product of the Day! I know how incredible that moment feels, and I’m genuinely happy for you. I’ve been following your journey even before launch and loved seeing how perfectly you pulled it off.
And naturally, shoutout to @fmerian, always a powerhouse when it comes to dev marketing on PH!
MultiDrive
@chilarai Thank you so much! Your advice helped us a lot , I truly appreciate it!
Joining the shoutout to @fmerian, Flo is an amazing hunter!
@chilarai @tetianai your words just made my day - thank you 🙏

I think we have another emerging star here! :)
Also, I would add that post-launch activities matter a lot too and presence after the launch as well – you never know, but probably you will relaunch a new update in the future. :)
Treat Product Hunt like any other social media platform where you want to be active.
MultiDrive
@busmark_w_nika Ahahah, thank you so much! :)
Yes, you’re right! Honestly, after the launch I needed to recharge my batteries a bit, but I still want to stay active here. 😊

@tetiana_hryshmanovska How much effort and time did you invest into the launch? :D
MultiDrive
@busmark_w_nika Personally, I spent at least 2 hours a day on Product Hunt - sometimes even 5+ 😄
Over time, it became really interesting to follow what people share, not only about launches but also about branding, marketing, and product thinking across LinkedIn and X. Overall, this definitely has an impact on the launch.
Additionally, it takes a lot of time to polish texts and visuals and to talk to people - especially on launch day. It’s hard to even count how much time that takes 🙂
About two active months 😄

@tetiana_hryshmanovska Okay, you seem to be a bigger fanatic than I am :DDDD
How much did you communicate your Product Hunt effort on social media?
frame this.

@fmerian Ideally, print it and hang it above your bed. It will be the last thing you see before you sleep and the first thing when you wake up!
MultiDrive
@fmerian @busmark_w_nika 😂 That’s how it starts… and suddenly Product Hunt is part of your morning and night routine.

@fmerian @tetiana_hryshmanovska Yes, not to miss your daily streak :D
@tetiana_hryshmanovska Thanks for sharing your story. It's great to learn what worked for you and what didn't. I also love Nika's content. And you're also highlighting showing up daily.
A new thing I learnt from your post is about finding a hunter. I guess having a hunter brings a lot of additional benefits.
How did you get in touch with one, may I ask? I mean, did you connect with them on LinkedIn or somewhere else? Did you use any specific strategy?
MultiDrive
@kavyashree_s1 I knew Flo hunts dev tools, and I noticed he had a GitHub link in his PH profile. So I just wrote to him there and asked if he might be interested in hunting our product.
A lot of hunters are on streaks, and you can check their hunting history right on their profiles. Many of them also have LinkedIn profiles, so you can contact them directly.
If you’ve already talked to some hunters before, that’s a perfect reason to message them. They’re very experienced with PH launches and can really help with useful suggestions!
@tetiana_hryshmanovska Thanks for the tips. I haven't really talked to hunters before, but I think I'll give it a try and try to connect with them on other platforms too and see how it goes.
I'm trying to put myself out in the public more and build my network and getting in touch with hunters will be even better for me, I guess. Thanks again :)
MultiDrive
@kavyashree_s1 I think you’re doing all the right things: being active is really the first and most important step on Product Hunt.
Wishing you lots of luck with finding a hunter and with your launch! I’m sure it will go great for you! 🚀
@tetiana_hryshmanovska Thank you for the tips and your kind words. I'll keep going!!
Thanks for sharing the real story behind the launch.
The focus on showing up every day, building relationships early, and not rushing the date really resonates - it’s easy to underestimate how much prep PH actually takes.
I’ve bookmarked this as a mini-checklist for my own launch.
Huge congrats to you and the MultiDrive team on making it happen 🚀

@serhii_pavlenko Thank you, Serhii! I’m really glad you found it helpful. Wishing you the best of luck with your future launch! 🚀
Thanks so much for sharing your story and tips, it really helped! I’ve been tweaking and postponing my Product Hunt launch over and over, trying to get it just right. Right now, it’s set for January 2026, but I’ve been worried I’m overthinking it by delaying so much.
Hearing that you went through the same thing makes me feel way less alone. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one! Your positivity and advice are exactly what I needed to hear. Thanks again!
MultiDrive
@iamrajanrk I totally understand you - I also kept postponing and even thought we wouldn’t get featured because of it 😄
But honestly, taking the time to polish everything is really important. You’re doing a great job by preparing properly, not rushing. Wishing you a super successful launch! 🚀
@tetiana_hryshmanovska Appreciate it, big thanks!
Thanks for sharing your experience, Tetiana! It is a great resource for me since I am planning a launch soon as well.

@purva_guptaa Thank you! I’m really happy it was helpful. 😊
Good luck with your upcoming launch - feel free to write to me on LinkedIn when your product goes live!
