[Launch] We're building Mindfries – A different approach to evaluating software engineers
Hey everyone!
We've been working on something that we've wanted to see in technical hiring for a long time.
Traditional technical interviews often focus heavily on LeetCode-style problems. But solving algorithmic questions under time pressure doesn't necessarily demonstrate how someone performs as an actual software engineer.
That's why we're building Mindfries.
Mindfries is an AI-powered engineering assessment platform designed to evaluate actual engineering ability rather than just interview performance.
What we're building:
Real-world coding assessments: Candidates work on practical engineering tasks instead of just solving isolated algorithmic questions.
Browser-based IDE: A dedicated development environment to work through assignments.
System design: Evaluate architectural thinking and technical decisions.
AI interviewer (Tanu): An interactive interviewer that engages with candidates throughout assessments.
Evidence-based grading: Evaluate problem-solving, implementation quality, reasoning, communication, and technical decisions.
Detailed candidate reports: Help hiring teams understand what candidates can actually do.
We're building this because we believe hiring should be based on real engineering skills and evidence, not just how well someone performs in a 45-minute interview.
We're currently testing the platform and looking for early users, especially engineering managers, startup founders, recruiters, and software engineers who are interested in rethinking technical hiring.

Would genuinely love to hear your thoughts, criticisms, and suggestions. We're still building, and feedback from people who actually hire or work as engineers would be incredibly valuable.
Thanks!
