I selected Maven as the home for my 2nd and newest online course (the 1st one has done over $1 million in lifetime revenue) precisely because I know how much work goes into managing: - Discussions (Slack free version is terrible for this, yet most courses choose to use it for some reason -- glad the team chose to lean into this feature) - Calendaring - Landing Pages (Maven's are the best I've seen, with all the right elements, designed beautifully) - Collecting $ (Easy Stripe integration, just took a few clicks) - Student surveys - Content / Courseware management With all of those things covered, instructors like me can focus on the teaching and the learning! Looking forward to see what and the rest of the Maven crew the team ships next.

Congratulations on the launch, and the massive progress ! What are your thoughts on balancing the value of live participation in classes with accessibility across geographies and timezones where that might be difficult?

LOL its such a challenge man. I think we'll just have to figure this out over time - for now we're kind of stuck in the US/EU time zones because of this. Eventually, I expect instructors will do 2 different time zones of their courses and we'll just have a lot more international instructors.

+1 to what Gagan said: we see many instructors teaching across two timezones, and we'll see more of that happen over time as people have a successful first cohort and want to grow. Two other parts to this answer: 1. "Live" is a big part of the CBC experience, but the "cohort" is a huge part of it as well. Async, almost-live discussions with classmates over shared context and lessons can be highly engaging and are unique parts of CBCs. 2. There are incredible experts all over the world, and while USA to Asia is a big timezone gap, EU to Asia, Africa to Australia, North America to South America are much more manageable gaps, and I certainly expect to see amazing instructors to teach CBCs from all these places in the medium term.

Most people think "live" means instructor-led but that's not necessarily true. Cohort-based courses are equally about productive live time with peers in your cohort. For example, the altMBA had 4-5 time zones--and it didn't mean the altMBA staff was awake 24 hours. We put students into small groups with professionals in their own time zone. It's sustainable for both the instructor & convenient for students. Btw students sometimes say they learn more from each other than the instructor. They come for the expert instructor, but stay because of the conversations they're able to have with fellow peers who are in the trenches.

how long do we have? The big three for me: 1. Bringing a whole new generation of teachers online - the people that have done it in the real world, and are ready to share what they know with the next generation of leaders. 2. Giving 1000x more students access to incredible discussions, direct interaction with experts, and a community to learn with. 3. Getting to do this with an incredible small team that knows how to build and ship and have a great time together while doing it.
