How do you actually track profit in ecommerce?

by

Working on real-time profit tracking for Shopify has raised a few interesting questions about how ecommerce founders actually think about their numbers.

Curious how others handle this.
Most stores already track:

  • Revenue

  • Ad spend

  • Orders

  • Conversion rates

But profit is usually the last thing to be understood properly.

Why do you think that is?
Is it mainly:

  • tool fragmentation (too many platforms)?

  • lack of real-time cost data?

  • or just not a priority until scaling?

Would love to hear how others see it.

For anyone running Shopify stores:

What would “real profit tracking” actually need to show for it to be useful day-to-day?

Is it just one number, or a breakdown of everything?

Also curious about integrations:

If a tool automatically synced:

  • Shopify

  • Meta Ads

  • Google Ads

  • TikTok Ads

What would still be missing for you to trust the numbers?

Building around solving this, but trying to understand how different people approach it.

Would appreciate any insights or experiences 👇
