Lyft Rentals - Renting a car just got easier

Now you can rent a car for road trips, moving day, errands, and that much-needed weekend escape. You won’t pay extra for gas, and Lyft covers your ride to and from the rental lot (up to $20 each way). No lines, hidden fees or last-minute vehicle model changes.

Glad to see this. I've had the worst experience with other P2P car rental services. I used to use Skurt (great service) before they shut down.
Gordon Tindall
@rrhoover skurt was a great service. Turns out delivering cars is operationally challenging.
Francesco Wiedemann
@rrhoover great concept indeed. https://drivekyte.com is now delivering rental cars to your door in SF! Let me know if you wanna try it

This makes so much sense. I've used Turo and Getaround a ton but would love one central app for on-demand transportation needs. Smart move by Lyft if it can scale.
Chelsea Hartney
@taylormajewski Agreed - also found that there were so many hidden fees on Turo so hopefully this is a bit more transparent!

Is this peer to peer or corporate provided?!

Hi @ryanmarr! Not p2p. We have specific areas around the city that we operate.

Great idea, but until credit cards begin extending their rental coverage to this type of car rental service, I won't feel comfortable doing this :/ Then again, I am a 6 on the enneagram, so I'm sure there are some 7s out there who'll read this and roll their eyes :)
Gordon Tindall
@mac_south1 curious, why do you think this wouldn’t be covered?
Frank Fumarola
@mac_south1 @_gordee I was curious too and so I called Chase Benefit Services to ask them if they consider Lyft Rental Cars as a rental car service. They do NOT consider it a rental car service despite it not being similar to Get Around or Turo. So for people with Chase, be warned that they will not give you primary auto coverage on Lyft Rentals. Not sure if Lyft offers collision damage waivers but if they do, make your decision operating under the assumption that Chase won't cover you as they do other rental companies.
Chris Messina
@ffumarola how does Chase define "rental car service" then?
Gordon Tindall
@ffumarola @chrismessina One thing to make sure of is that they understand that the rental is not for ride share. There is often confusion on their end when they hear "Lyft" and "rentals". We specifically call this out in the FAQ as it has come up before. https://www.lyft.com/rider/renta...
Frank Fumarola
@chrismessina @_gordee Gordon, yep I triple confirmed that to make sure they didn't think I was talking about renting a car as a contractor to give people rides. Chris, no idea, but the standard companies, Zipcar, etc, all count as rental car services to them.
Chris Messina
This is basically a free car rental... at least with the current pricing.🔥💰🔥💰🔥
Gordon Tindall
@chrismessina thanks for hunting us! Excited to hear your feedback after you try it.

This idea makes a ton of sense. High time someone centralized the car rental space. I wonder if Lyft will own and provide it's own fleet of cars for renting, or will it offering car rentals for privately owned vehicles - like what Lyft does
Armand
Lyft has a TON of data from renting cars out to drivers. This is dope. Another set towards not owning a car, and hailing self-driving cars. I, for one, welcome our Robo overlords.
Mata Mokwala
This is major. Will definitely partake and provide some feedback!
Gordon Tindall
@mata_mokwala Looking forward to it!

Good pricing! Looks promising.

Very clever - this is a great platform extension
