Lottie Creator 2.0 - After Effects for the web, built on Lottie
by•
Yes, we're calling it: After Effects for the web. Design vector animations from scratch in your browser, move faster with Motion Copilot AI, wire up interactivity with State Machines, and export production-ready Lottie + dotLottie. No desktop app. No dev handoff.

Bringing motion design to the web without needing After Effects itself is a real accessibility unlock — most teams have someone who can tweak a Lottie file but nobody who can drive AE. Curious how much of the After Effects feature set actually translates to the web builder versus what's a deliberately simplified subset — full expressions/effects support is usually where these web-based tools hit a ceiling.

@abhineetarora By “After Effects for the web,” we mean bringing a familiar timeline-based vector animation workflow into the browser, not 1:1 AE feature parity.
Creator is deliberately focused around Lottie and dotLottie. It already supports nearly the full dotLottie feature set, including State Machines and Motion Tokens, and we’re continuing to add more.
The full range of AE features and effects isn’t supported, and runtime compatibility can also vary by the player used.
We’d love to know which AE features matter most to your workflow.

Congratulations to the Creator team on shipping what could be the next breakthrough in motion design. This will be a valuable tool for designers, developers, and anyone who wants to create Lottie animations without a complicated setup. I especially like how easy it is to make changes, preview animations, and adjust individual elements. Thanks team.

What I love about Creator 2.0 is that I can do everything right in the browser without having to set anything up or switch between tools. Just open it & start creating, making it very so easy to experiment with motion! 🪄

@amanda_patamakanthin Can't wait to see your creation!

Thanks @hannesh!
You can even ask Motion Copilot to add visual themes to your animation.
It’ll create Motion Tokens and set up multiple variations, such as light and dark themes, within the same animation, so you don’t need to recreate it.
Give it a try and let us know what you think!
after effects for the web is a bold thing to put on the box, and the right bar to aim at. does 2.0 change anything about the handoff, or is the export still the same drop-it-in lottie file devs already know?

@alex_watson2110 Hey Alex, thanks for reaffirming our direction, we hope to (if not now, then eventually) live up to that bar!
With 2.0 we've expanded the export and download flow within the Creator. You still have the option to export and handoff your dotlottie files the way you've always done with your team, but you also have the option to download directly from Creator now.
If you have more feedback for how we can improve that particular flow, we'd love to hear it as well.
Creator 2.0 is finally here, and this launch belongs as much to the community as it does to the team behind it. Watching creators share feedback, push boundaries, and inspire new ideas throughout the journey has been incredible. Motion Copilot has already changed the way I work, and I’m excited to see how this community takes it even further. Here’s to building, creating, and growing together. 🤩🚀
State Machines are still one of my favourite features. Before Lottie Creator, building interactive animations felt pretty challenging. I'm really excited to see what people create with them—there are so many possibilities!
Motion Copilot has saved me so much time when experimenting with different animation options. The new version is even better because it can create animations from scratch, giving a solid starting point that I can refine instead of starting with a blank canvas.

Honored to be a part of Creator engineering team.
Creator has been an ongoing project that's been incredibly fun to work on, from the earlier versions up until today. It's so much more stable, intuitive and capable than ever before. I hope you enjoy using it as much as we've enjoyed building it.
My favorite part is how easy it is to iterate. Prompt, tweak, refine, repeat. Watching an idea transform into an animation in seconds still feels kind of wild!
