Download Loical - search bay area events and volunteer opportunities

The old app was a directory you visit with intent ("I want to volunteer"). A map with trending spots is something people open with no intent ("what's happening near me?"). That makes it easier to market because the hook is visual and shareable, but harder at cold start, because a map with few pins and a trending list with no activity both look dead.

Hey Product Hunt, I'm Jay, co-founder of Loical 👋 We launched a first version last year as a directory of nonprofits and volunteer opportunities in the Bay Area. It worked on paper, but people only opened it when they already knew what they wanted. Nobody opened it just to see what's going on nearby. So we rebuilt it from scratch around a map and a trending spots feed. Now you can open it with zero intent and see what's alive around you: volunteer shifts this weekend, farmers markets, community spots locals are actually saving. A few honest notes: We're starting in the Bay Area (San Jose first) so the map feels dense instead of empty. Trending is based on real saves and check-ins, not paid placement. It's early, and I'd rather hear what's broken than what's nice. One question for you: what's the one spot in your neighborhood that tourists never find but locals love? Drop it below and I'll add it to the map today. And if you're outside the Bay Area, what would make a map like this useful where you live?
