What we learned after talking to 100+ builders about link-in-bio tools

Hi Product Hunt đź‘‹

What we learned after talking to 100+ builders before launching LinkPre

I spent the last few weeks talking to builders, freelancers, students, and solo founders who already use link-in-bio tools.

I want to share a few patterns we noticed — and why they pushed us to refine LinkPre even further.

A pattern we didn’t expect

Almost everyone already had a link-in-bio.

But very few were happy with what it actually did for them.

Common feedback we heard:

  • “People visit my link, but don’t reach out.”

  • “It shows links, but not me.”

  • “I still have to explain myself again on calls or DMs.”

  • “It doesn’t help me look credible to clients or hiring managers.”

The link worked.
The conversion didn’t.

The real job a “single link” should do

We realized the job isn’t:

“Send people to other websites.”

The real job is:

“Help someone decide if you’re worth their time.”

That decision usually depends on:

  • Proof of work

  • Context about experience

  • Signals of trust

  • Clear next action

Most tools stop at navigation.
We decided to design for decision-making.

How this shaped LinkPre

Based on these conversations, we doubled down on LinkPre as a living digital identity, not a static page.

That’s why a LinkPre profile is structured to answer:

  • What have you actually built or worked on?

  • What skills do you demonstrate, not just claim?

  • What do others say about you?

  • What’s the easiest way to work with you right now?

All in one place.
One link.
No friction.

Who we’re building this for

LinkPre is especially for:

  • Builders and indie founders

  • Freelancers & consultants

  • Students & job seekers

  • Creators who want credibility, not just clicks

If your link is often the first impression — we want it to do more than redirect.

Launch details & open questions

We’re launching LinkPre on Feb 5, 2026 🚀

Before that, I’d love input from this community:

  • What makes you trust someone from a single link?

  • What’s missing in your current link-in-bio setup?

  • What would make you replace (or complement) your existing tool?

Thanks again for the thoughtful feedback so far — it’s directly shaping the product.
