Layer turns your browser into a collaborative workspace. Every website becomes a space for you and your team to collaborate; share ideas, feedback, notes, and explore the internet together in real-time. Imagine Figma’s collaboration but now across the browser!
Thanks @kevin for hunting us!
Hellooo product hunt! 👋
I’m Tarek, co-founder of Layer. This is our first PH launch and we’re super excited to share with you what we’ve been working on.
🤓 First why are we building Layer?@samabi and I have been building software for many years now and realised that the way teams currently collaborate is mildly insane. Work and collaboration are two complete separate processes, we work on the web and collaborate on isolated apps like Slack, Linear and Notion where we export web contents to discuss it. This leads to disjointed workflows, context switching, loss of context, etc. Figma gave us a glimpse of the incredible potential of deeply integrating collaboration into the productivity flow, and we wonder why hasn't it been implemented across all apps.
🎯 Layer is a Chrome extension that transforms your browser into a multiplayer experience with your team. Every website or web app becomes a collaborative space where you can leave layers of information, ideas, feedback, or notes for your team. And when words aren't enough, you can dive into live sessions, exploring the internet together in real-time with synchronised navigation and live cursors.
Imagine the collaboration features of Figma, but now extended to the entire web!
Here are just a few of the exciting use cases where Layer can be a game changer:
- 🔬 Research: Annotate competitor/industry websites with layer to highlight key insights for exploration.
- 🎙 Feedback on website: Provide feedback, suggestions, or report bugs directly in context
- 💭 Inspiration phase: Collect images and interactions for personal or team inspiration and reference.
- 🛠 Tool documentation: Leave contextual notes on ERP, BI, CRM tools for more info or explanation.
…and so much more. We’d love to hear from you on what kind of workflows would you like to improve or create by having your team with you natively on the internet. We deeply appreciate all feedback and suggestion here 💬
We are incredibly excited about the possibilities, and if you share our enthusiasm, we would love to hear from you. Show us some love and leave us a note at founders@layer.appThank you all for your time and support!

I am thrilled to witness the launch of Layer on PH! Over the last 2 months, I've had the privilege of utilizing it in its beta phase, and I'm delighted that it's now open to a wider audience. Layer has proven to be incredibly useful for me, particularly when it comes to providing front-end feedback. By directly annotating webpages, it eliminates the need for lengthy exchanges and screenshot sharing with my team, saving me hours of work!
Great work @tarekabi and @samabi - congrats on the launch! Would love to understand if people can collaborate in real time i.e. watch the comments people leave on the page and reply back immediately. Also, what improvements would have to be made so that QA teams are able to use it to review time-sensitive information?
Thanks for your support @konstantinapsoma ! Yes, Layer does allow for real-time collaboration, including live comments. For QA teams, we're constantly improving and would love specific feedback to better cater the needs. Let's connect and discuss more!
The concept behind Layer is quite intriguing! Turning the entire web into a collaborative space sounds like it has immense potential. I'm curious, how does your platform manage to prevent information overload? With every website potentially being a space for collaboration, how do you help users navigate through this and keep the discussions and notes relevant and manageable?
Hey @ricardo_luz thanks for the support! You oversaw a big learning of our beta phase, so now (1) If they're action items, you can archive them once they're resolved and you'll still have a copy on slack for retrieval purposes and (2) if they're more passive comments you can add them to a collection, where they can be trimmed, organised and share.

This is really cool, and why is it free? Congratulations on your launch!
Hey @vladimir_zivkovic because we believe that the best things in life are free. Our goal is to keep it free for individuals, while introducing a paid tier for teams that unlocks special features. Thanks for the support! 🚀
@alexharris Thanks for your support @alexharris ! We're delighted to hear you see value in Layer, it will bring you and your team collaboration superpowers.
Thrilling concept with a cool name, so ofc I'm gonna check it out. Are there multiple layers for different contexts / team vs personal layer? Or am I just imaging the onion layers metaphor lol 🧅
Thanks for your interest @naomichao ! Yes, you're absolutely right - Layer does allow you to create different 'layers' for various groups and categories. So yes much like an onion - minus the tears ;) Dive in and see how it works for you 🚀
@tarekabi lol "minus the tears" I love that. Well much like an onion, this seems to go well with everything. It enhances the entire dish, so kudos for that ;)
