Why I'm building a $1.49 ad-free app in a world of subscriptions
by•
Hi everyone, I'm Glen. I'm a 72 year old retired software developer who decided to get back into the game for two specific reasons: I wanted to keep my brain nimble and my wife's favorite grocery list app became so bloated with ads and subscriptions that it was barely usable.
I decided to build Simple Grocery List: Notepad to be exactly what it sounds like—clean, fast, and 100% ad-free. No data tracking, no monthly fees, just a one-time $1.49 'coffee tip' to support an indie dev.
I have finished the testing phase and my app is available on Google Play. I'd love to hear from this community—do you still value simple 'one-and-done' utility apps, or has the world moved entirely to AI and subscriptions?
