Hi PH 👋 I'm Avi from Ryware. We give away the tools we build for ourselves
Hey Product Hunt 👋 I’m Avi, a software engineer at Ryware.
Most of our days go into client work: web, mobile, cloud, and data systems. But we have a rule: when we build a tool we need ourselves, we make it good enough to give away. The code is public, so anyone can read it and judge our work for themselves.
Here’s what’s out there so far, all free and open source:
🗂️ Headroom (my baby): a native Mac disk analyzer. It shows a treemap of your drive, finds duplicates and developer caches, and tells you what’s safe to delete before anything goes to Trash. Claude and other AI agents can use it too. No account, no telemetry, no subscription. MIT license.
🎛️ Nona: a self-hosted alternative to Firebase Remote Config. You get feature flags and app settings through one REST API, so you can change them without redeploying. Docker-first, no SDK lock-in. Apache 2.0.
🧩 ngx-drag-and-drop-lists: a small Angular drag-and-drop component for lists. It does one job, and it has been forked 40 times so far.
We don’t want to build another bloated SaaS. We’d rather have a few small tools that solve one real problem well.
Some questions for the community:
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve found hogging your disk? Mine was 68 GB of old iOS simulators 😅
If you maintain open source alongside a day job or client work, how do you get people to find it? Stars come slowly.
Which tool do you wish had a free, self-hostable or open-source version? We’re always looking for the next thing to build.
And if you’re launching soon, drop it below. I’m happy to try it and give honest feedback 🙌
