Hey! Awesome to see something out there to help musicians earn money. As someone who has been in the music biz for a little while and deal directly with indie artists on a day to day basis with my production company, I'm curious if either of you guys have any background in this? Music is something that has become super saturated over the past few years, where everyone wants to become an artist. That being said, how selective is this? Are you aimed at a SoundCloud type user base, where anyone and their dog can sign up? Or for lower mid-tier artists who already have a following. Artists need a place to build their audience.
@kingliv_ hey Louis - thanks for the comment! Neither of us have any direct experience in the music space.
We've previously started an accommodation booking website together (travelground.com - ~2nd biggest in South Africa). We see a lot of overlap in the complexity of travel (dynamic pricing, complex fare rules, etc.) in the music industry and so feel we can bring our experience in breaking down this complexity and building simple, beautiful products to the music industry. Having spent the last 9 months learning everything we can about the music industry, we also believe that disruption in this space will come from the outside.
Lastly, we want Huzza to work for everyone from the smallest artists to the rockstars. For example, we enable tipping for smaller artists, but switch it out for merchandise for bigger artists who don't feel comfortable asking for tips.
Thanks again for your questions and please feel free to get in touch if you want to chat more (nick@huzza.io).
I'm a big fan of what @nickste & co have done with Huzza. There is a lot of tech in the independent artist livestreaming space but Huzza's solution is much sleeker and less ostentatious than some of the other lightweight, desktop click-and-stream options. There's also a lot of flexibility on the platform that makes it a more attractive solution.
@nickste I did figure that out, though I did feel like I was being mislead to believe otherwise. It did say someone would be playing shortly.
Anyhow, as a musician myself and a tech enthusiast, would love to see how it actually plays out live. :)
I have my doubts, but would love to be proven wrong.
