The final countdown - can a bootstrapped startup get top 3 of the week?!?
byβ’
We launched Honestly on Thursday and I wanted to again say that the support has been absolutely overwhelming. Thank you to everyone that has helped so far.
We placed #2 on Thursday and are now less than 10 upvotes away from securing the #3 spot of the week!
For anyone that wants to see David beat Goliath (aka the bootstrapped smaller startups beat the bigger companies), any support would be greatly appreciated!

I've always admired founders who build without outside funding. The final countdown is exciting, but regardless of the ranking, making it this far already says a lot about the product and the team behind it
@rahul_manjhi1Β For me, the most intresting part isn't whether you reach the top 3βit's how you got this close without relying on external funding. That's a story worth sharing on its own
Honestly
Β @bryan_williamson3Β Thanks Bryan! We'd like to think so as well haha. By the way if you haven't upvoted Honestly already, we would greatly appreciate one! We are super close to achieving our goal :)
Honestly
@rahul_manjhi1Β You are too kind, Rahul! We try our best to perform as well as possible given our circumstances. There is some adversity but that's what makes bootstrapped founders stronger! Also, if you haven't upvoted yet, we would appreciate one :) We are so close to our goal!
Congrats on an incredible launch! As a fellow bootstrapped founder, I know how much work goes into getting to launch day, let alone making it into the top rankings.
Rooting for you to break into the top 3. Wishing you and the team the best! π
Honestly
@deebuildsΒ There's definitely struggle but also immense reward! Thank you so much for the support and if you haven't upvoted yet, we would appreciate one :) We are so close to our goal!

I think you have done a great job at reaching out to Product Hunt members, adding value and (very politely) also bringing up Honestly, so really hope you get there! Congrats!
Honestly
@dfectΒ ππ Thank you for supporting Honestly!!
top three of the week with no funding is a different shape of win than the bigger names. funded teams are paid to chase the leaderboard. bootstrapped teams are paid only if a user comes back tomorrow. one is a sprint. the other is a habit. rooting for the habit.
Honestly
@thenameisarianΒ 100%! thank you so much for the kind words and support. And if you haven't upvoted already, we'd really appreciate one! We are so close meeting our goal :)
Honestly
@thenameisarian exactly. That distinction means a lot, especially when youβre trying to build something people actually come back to. Really appreciate the support.
Rooting for you. There's something special about bootstrapped launches making it to the top of PH because every upvote is earned, not bought through paid campaigns or massive ad spend. The narrative of "small team, real product, real users" still resonates with the community and that's what PH was built for in the first place.
One thing I've seen work really well for bootstrapped launches in the final stretch: lean into the community angle hard. People love supporting underdogs but they need to actually feel like part of the story. If you have a personal post explaining the journey, the lessons, and what hitting top 3 would mean for the team, that usually triggers way more comments than another product reminder. Wishing you the best of luck closing it out strong.
Honestly
@nolan_vuΒ appreciate that tons Nolan, thank you very much!
@scott_davidson_jrΒ you're welcome, hope that you can continue your success
Honestly
@nolan_vu thank you! Really appreciate the support and the thoughtful advice. Totally agree that the community side is what makes Product Hunt special.
As a fellow bootstrapped solo founder currently prepping my own launch, this is exactly the kind of news I love to see.
Generally I find that the weekly leaderboards are mostly dominated by large funded giants with massive marketing budgets and teams, so watching an independent project climb the ranks is incredibly refreshing. Congratulations.
You have my vote, and I am rooting for Honestly to make that top 3 spot!
Out of curiosity, what has been your main strategy for maintaining momentum throughout the week to compete with those highly funded launches?
Honestly
@codeandseaΒ Thank you very much, Brent! Extremely kind words for you to say and I definitely agree, it is more difficult going up against teams with large marketing budgets but more rewarding if you get there!
Our main strategy I believe led to our success was joining & contributing to communities with other Product Hunt users. At the end of the day, the upvotes & comments that actually count are going to come from active users. Therefore, developing relationships with such users is key (counts heavily in those early hours of the launch).
Happy to answer more questions you have - just message me on LinkedIn
@scott_davidson_jrΒ - Thanks, I do have some questions so I may reach out to you on LinkedIn - I'm trying a similar approach by joining and contributing to communities - I feel like I'm slowly making progress but it is a full time job - I think I'm spending more time doing this than actually writing code and building the product.
For me, a bootstrapped startup reaching the top 3 always feels more impressive because every results comes from focus, execution, and persistence.
Honestly
@gwendolyn_kiraΒ You make a great point and are completely right. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Also, if you haven't upvoted yet, we would appreciate one :) We are so close to our goal!

Someone I know is building a bootstrapped product and this is the kind of launch story that keeps them motivated.
Honestly
@maklyen_mayΒ That is great to hear and we are glad we can serve as inspiration! Also, if you haven't upvoted yet, we would appreciate one :) We are so close to our goal!
