Self-hosted web app to track home devices, credentials, and physical port connections

I’m Mike, the creator of HomeNetworkInventory,
and I’m sharing my project with you today.
For nearly 20 years, I’ve been developing low-level wireless communication SDKs and building DIY hardware for smart homes, including ESP32 and Apple Home ecosystems. As my own home lab and network grew, I faced a common problem: how to keep track of every device, connection, and credential without relying on enterprise tools that are too heavy and bloated for home use.
On the other hand, traditional spreadsheets lack the ability to map physical relationships, like bidirectional cable connections and port mappings.
That’s why I built HomeNetworkInventory—a dedicated, lightweight, self-hosted web app designed specifically for tech enthusiasts, sysadmins, and home labers.
Key Features:
Multi-Home Environments: Manage separate networks (e.g., home, office, country house) completely independently under one dashboard.
Physical Topology Mapping: Track physical ports (LAN1, WAN) and create bidirectional cable links between devices.
Credentials & Services: Keep track of Web UIs, SSH access, and passwords exactly where the device lives.
Lightweight Stack: Built with Python/FastAPI, SQLite, and vanilla JS. There are no heavy Node.js or modern frontend compilation steps, meaning it runs perfectly even on a Raspberry Pi.
What’s Next & Roadmap:
The project is fully open-source under the AGPL-3.0 license. I am actively working on adding:
Docker support (Dockerfile & docker-compose) for simple deployments.
Improved UI for mapping complex setups.
Network scanning features.
