I built a hiking app because my wife kept asking about mountains
During our hiking trips, my wife constantly asked me things like:
“What mountain is that?”
“And what’s that tower over there?”
Since I’ve been building software for many years, I decided to create a simple app that could identify peaks, landmarks and interesting places around us directly from a phone.
What started as a tiny personal project slowly evolved into Hill Explorer — a hiking app focused on outdoor discovery and exploration.
One thing I noticed while building it is that most similar apps focus only on mountain peaks. I wanted Hill Explorer to go further by helping people discover towers, castles, landmarks, drinking water springs and many other interesting places in the landscape as well.
I want to continue improving the app and would really love feedback from hikers, climbers, ferrata enthusiasts and outdoor explorers about which features they find most useful during their adventures.
