HBO Max - Where HBO meets so much more

@chrismessina @rrhoover Why? Legacy contracts. HBO had relationships with dozens of cable providers before they built their first independent streaming app, HBO Now. So, you had more restrictions on what you could do in the app if someone paid directly vs. if they got online streaming for free with the subscription they purchased through their cable provider. So, you have one app for people under restrictive relationships controlled by their cable provider: HBO GO. And then you had another for people who subscribed directly: HBO Now. HBO Max replaces HBO Now and adds content from all the other studios now owned by WarnerMedia (Cartoon Network, Crunchyroll, TNT, etc). That video does a terrible job of explaining any of it.

@rrhoover @futhey looks like the confusion has been cleared up...! “Now that HBO Max has launched and is widely distributed, we can implement some significant changes to our app offering in the U.S. As part of that plan, we will be sunsetting our HBO GO service in the U.S. We intend to remove the HBO GO app from primary platforms as of July 31, 2020,” WarnerMedia, HBO’s parent company, said in a statement.
