Google+ 2.0? From what I've read, Spaces is more focused on small communities focused on specific topics (e.g. comics), similar to many Facebook Groups. shares more about the upcoming launch on the , rolling out today.
this could be what google wave should have been ^_^

Spaces is for small group, almost "ad-hoc" sharing: buying a car, planning a trip, sharing music recommendations, etc. These kinds of Spaces can be spun up instantly (just one tap) and can fade away when un-needed. Spaces isn't a social app/media/network. It is a utility/tool and the feature set reflects that.

This sounds cool but I'm starting to get fatigue from material design. Small groups concept with material design feel more like a standard hotel room instead of an AirBnb.

it feels that every tap is rewarded with bells and whistles. It's almost patronising.

I'm not sure if I want another app just for small groups... what's wrong with my group on facebook messenger or line or whatsapp?
Whether or not you like the idea, I think we can all agree that the whole landing page is seriously cool and creative.
works fine for me. Full access though there is no download of the android/chrome/ios apps yet
So, from what I can see, the service isn't open to Google Apps users? Why does Google keep doing this? If this is the case, how come no one seems to remember to mention this in any press releases? I'm so sick of being treated like the bastard stepchild because I'm on Google Apps. >:-(

apologies but we have to do some more work to make this work well for Google Apps customers.
You guys NEVER say when products aren't available to Google Apps users. We have to find out for ourselves when things don't work! Please stop doing this!

we did mention this in the launch post: "Spaces is rolling out today on Android, iOS, desktop, and mobile web for all Gmail accounts" and within-app messaging but agree we could have done better. apologies!
IMO, saying that it's available for Gmail accounts is NOT the same as saying "Not available to Google Apps accounts". A lot of people, including me, don't associate having a Google App account as "not having a Gmail account". I'm nitpicking on wording and semantics, but perception is reality with most people. I appreciate the clarification.

Totally! It looks like they're leaning on the search + share integration to keep people using it. Half Rooms and half group Pocket.
What happened to fb rooms? How long ago did it go under?

A "me-too" problem for Google. Trying to compete with Facebook at something Facebook has already won mind share on. Snapchat launched in late 2011, and grew at a rapid pace with disappearing pictures and messages. A year later, after seeing Snapchat’s rapid ascend, Facebook revealed Poke, a clone app with the same functionality. Not too surprising that 1.5 year later, the app was shut down. Could Facebook have beaten Snapchat with Poke? I did the research and put together a conclusion on how to succeed AND fail at making a "me-too" app - . Enjoy.
