@ghostery @tillhouse as a long time ublock origin user, what's your elevator pitch to make me switch?

@ghostery @tillhouse @scotty_bowler I guess - crossing fingers and wish -
Jeremy Tillman
@ghostery @scotty_bowler Hey Scott, Ghostery 8 is the first privacy tool that combines a blocklist approach with an AI-powered antitracking technology that detects trackers in real-time and completely scrubs any uniquely identifiable information they might be sending to their servers. This means that, even if a tracker is unknown or you choose to unblock it for some reason, your privacy is still protected. Additionally, Ghostery 8 includes a dedicated ad blocker (using the EasyList), so if you were previously using 2-3 tools to block ads and stop trackers, you can now do all that with just Ghostery. On top of that, our new Smart Blocking feature makes it easy to set-and-forget the product and not have to worry about customizing your blocking settings on each website you visit. Also, our Ghosty is adorable.

yet Safari ext is still at 5.4...
Jeremy Tillman
@roman_dubinin Hey Roman, we're working on a new version of Ghostery for Safari that uses Safari's new content blocking API, which is their preferred method for all content blockers. It's almost like building a product from scratch, though, so it'll take us some time...

I use this everyday. It's great to have trackers blocked and when a website locks their content behind their paywall, it's pretty simple to open Ghostery and figure out which tracker to temporarily unblock (usually Google Tag Manager or Doubleclick). So much easier to use than other ad blockers and I like the ability to control what third parties can load on my browser.

Pros:

Gets rid of so much clutter

Cons:

Getting a little bulky with new features. Keep it simple guys.

Big fan of this UI. I think it will be a competitive advantage over some of the other ad blockers out there. Great job @tillhouse! Quick question - how do you plan on sustaining this project, i.e. what (if any) are your monetization plans?
Jeremy Tillman
@codyfitzpatrick Hi Cody, thanks for the kind words! We're working on a couple projects to help us create a sustainable business model. First, we're building a premium product called Ghostery Insights, a tool for researchers, analysts, and professionals to analyze the impact the hidden ecocystem of trackers have on websites. Second, we're experimenting with a new concept called Ghostery Rewards, an optional feature that let's users earn rewards (e.g., product discounts or unique offers) from partner companies. Both concepts are in their early stages but we will be rolling them out in the first half of 2018. You're also welcome to send us sacks full of money. I'm just sayin...
Cody Fitzpatrick
@tillhouse Those are some exciting upcoming features, thanks for sharing. I’m sure you guys have considered it as I believe it’s been done before (perhaps not with the best execution), but opt-in, revenue-share ads (between a site owner and the Ghostery user) may be a worthwhile addition to the rewards program. If all else fails, a “send us sacks full of money” donation page may prove valuable. ;)

I started using Ghostery when it first came out when I heard about in on DoNotTrack webseries. It has been part of my internet since then and also on my mobile devices is the Ghostery web browser.

Pros:

easy to use

Cons:

none

I added Ghostery from the Firefox app list. Seems good but when I log on the computer it appears as my home page. I just want it running in the background. Do you know if I can change it to just clicking on the page when I want to? Thanks.

Upvoted mainly because there's also an Opera version. Nice work!
Ryan Roberts
Does it block YouTube ads? I switched from Ghostery a while back because it wasn't blocking them,
Jeremy Tillman
@ryan_roberts1 Hi Ryan, Ghostery 8 has a dedicated ad blocker that uses the EasyList, so it should block YouTube ads. Try out Ghostery 8 and see if it works for you!

This plugin always breaks sites for me.
HiramFromTheChi
@productpearson Sometimes it'll block scripts because scripts can contain malware. Simply disable them and refresh the page. Security is always at war with convenience.

I use this everyday

Pros:

Very powerful tool for privacy

Cons:

Not really a con, but I would love to see what other privacy tools Ghostery can come up with.
