What made you finally decide to hire, after months of telling yourself you did not need to yet?

I put off hiring for longer than I should have because the cost was obvious and the pain was not, until the week three things broke at once and I realized I had been quietly compensating for a gap the whole time. Curious what the actual moment was for other people, was it one specific event, or did it just accumulate until you could not ignore it anymore. And once you did hire, was the thing you hired for the actual problem, or did you find out later it was something else entirely.

For me, the turning point would be realizing that I was spending too much time protecting the business from problems instead of growing the business.
The hardest part of hiring is that the cost is visible immediately, while the opportunity cost of not hiring is hidden. You can convince yourself you are saving money, but if your time is being consumed by repetitive tasks, coordination, or fixing avoidable issues, the business is already paying for it.
I think the best hires often come slightly before you feel ready — when there is a clear bottleneck, but before it becomes a crisis.
