What actually worked for landing your very first 10 paid users when nobody knew you?

Just finished my product and quickly learned that building it was the easy part. Starting with zero followers or email list makes getting those initial sales feel almost impossible. There are so many channels to try but most feel like shouting into the void. If you started from scratch did cold messages posting in online groups or something else actually get people to pay?

I do not have ten yet, so this is the other half of your question: what measurably did not get anyone to pay, from a small invoicing tool that started with no followers and no list.
Paid social first. About 165 dollars on Reddit and X ads. After removing bots and crawlers from the server log, roughly 190 real people landed, and about 95 percent left after one page. That held whether the ad pointed at the homepage, the pricing page or the free tool itself, and none of them signed up. Before cleaning the log I blamed the landing page. The clean numbers said the audience was wrong, not the page.
Cold email next. About two hundred sends drew three replies: two polite noes, and one person who pointed out that the email had guessed something about his clients and stated it as fact. The rule I took from that: never assert anything about a prospect you did not read on their own site. Slow, but it is the only channel where a real person in the target group answered at all, which the ads and our launch here never managed.
If I started over I would not pay for ads until someone had paid me, and I would spend the first month on one place where the buyer already has the problem and is asking about it, and count replies from those people rather than visits.
