What 3,336 Shipaton 2026 projects say about indie apps right now
Hey makers 👋
RevenueCat's Shipaton (their mobile hackathon) ended on September 30 with 3,336 projects on Devpost and 2,139 published apps. I went through all the public pages to see what people built. Some of what I found:
- 88.6% were built by one person. The biggest team had 16.
- Health & Fitness passed Productivity as the biggest category, and games nearly tripled their share.
- The most common type of app was screen time and focus blockers, about 105 of them.
- Claude is the most-listed AI model (356 projects). For writing the code, Codex (129) is ahead of Claude Code (107) and Cursor (38).
- More than half were built cross-platform, but fewer than 1 in 5 apps shipped to both the App Store and Google Play.
- Only about 35 projects, roughly 1 in 100, said what their app earned.

A
question for the makers here: if you built cross-platform but launched on one store, what stopped you from shipping the second one?
