Sleep. The most underrated productivity hack.

byβ€’
While remote working, we all have had numerous discussions around the importance of sleep, and read many articles about the benefit of sleep, but do we sleep well? I am a person who needs 8 hours of sleep every night to function. I always thought that was such a waste of time. I envied others who could just sleep for 5 hours and still be ok until I read the book 'Why we sleep'. (I might now agree with everything in the book. but that's beside the point) Are you consciously trying to sleep better? Or you already do? How many hours of sleep do you manage to get daily?

7 - 9 hours is fine for me, and I truly believe that we have to sleep more than 6 hours to be more productive. Sometimes I also sleep 1 hour during the day.
Hi Deepa, 7 is fine for me. I tried to sleep 6 hours but when I finally realised that it was a stupid idea, I gave up. "I envied others who could just sleep for 5 hours". Me too ;)
Haha! We are an envious lot! ;)
yeah 😁 I love sleeping, but there are so many interesting things to do ...
Great topic! It is the same with me, I must admit. I simply need 8h of sleep, and yes - society and obligations or tempo of others dictates that this simple, normal, and human need makes you feel lazy, not productive enough, guilty, etc.. :/ Anyway, I think that new awareness and the types of workflows are opening this normality to the world, and life is getting more in balance.. ^_^
I agree. Sleep is such a crucial part of our day.
I never get enough sleep! unfortunately
oh! How does that work for you?
I suffer every day. i think i will die young for lack of sleep
5 to 6 hours good for me, then afternoon nap for 2 to 3 hours
Our good old siesta!
No matter what is the situation, I always manage my time to get enough sleep. Otherwise, I cannot concentrate on my job.
Ditto!
I have actively started tracking my sleep since a few months which helps me see trends in my mood and productivity and how it relates to my sleep quantity and quality. I am averaging 7 and a half hour of sleep these days which works good for me. Btw, I want to know what points do you disagree because I find them all pretty compelling. πŸ‘€
did you find any correlation between your quality of sleep and your productivity?
Best thing I've done sleep-wise is keep the curtains open, natural light seems to sort out my circadian rhythm!
I wonder how it works for people when they use black out curtains!
I usually prefer my sleep to be around 6-7 hours, and I'm most functional and comfortable then. I noticed that stress, social media, and coffee affect my sleep, so I'm trying to cut some habits to function better. You should be fine as long as you follow your biorhythm with sleeping and reduce things that affect your sleep quality.
I couldn`t agree more 😊
I think in an ideal world I need 8. I also think everyone is different and everybody has different times in their life where they need more or less so being intune with your own body and respecting its needs rather than hustle culture is really important. Although I need 8 and that's ideal, 7 works but I have a 2 year old so I dont get to choose at the moment!
