Should I show my name and face on every page, or build a faceless brand?
Right now my name is everywhere — the About page, the footer, the blog bylines, the support emails, the invoices. It feels honest, and early on it was my biggest advantage: people bought because they trusted me, not because they trusted a logo.
But I keep wondering if I'm accidentally capping the ceiling. A faceless brand can scale past me, hire a team, get acquired, survive my vacation, and eventually run without my face on it. A personal brand can't — it is me, and the day I stop showing up, it stops working.
I've watched solo founders build massive personal brands and then struggle to ever sell the company, because the company was never really the asset. I've also watched faceless SaaS brands that felt cold and generic and never built the same loyalty.
There's a middle path — personal brand now, gradually hand it to the company — but I've never seen anyone execute that transition cleanly. It always feels like a bait and switch to the early customers who came for the person.
Do you put your name on everything, or hide behind the brand? And if you've transitioned from one to the other, how did your earliest customers react?
