Screenshot or mockup?
by•
I keep going back and forth on this for our website.
A real screenshot shows the product as it is. And it's a good product, so I want to show it. But there's a lot of information on the screen, and a website visitor gives you about two seconds to convince them to stay.
A simplified mockup works better in those two seconds. It's cleaner and there's one thing to look at. But it's not exactly what you get when you sign up, and I don't want to deceive people.
So the choice is between honest but overwhelming, and clear but slightly made up?!
I haven't figured it out yet. How do you handle this on your own site?

I observed your product already looks clean so you might not be need heavy simplification and I wonder if you tried cropping tightly around one feature instead of showing full screen because that feels honest and focused at same time today.
@alheri_murya Thanks for the advice!
We wrote it down as a rule during our site redesign: anything showing the product has to be a real screenshot of a real screen. Generated art is allowed only if it depicts nothing. One image got pulled from our CTA because of it, a person at a laptop with floating dashboards that didn't belong to any real product.
Alheri's crop idea is the middle path. If you could only show one panel of your app, which would it be?
