Our most-used integration was built by a user who never contacted us.
We ranked integrations by active connections across 2 years.
Official integrations we built: top one had 4,100 connections
Community-built integration by a single user: 11,800 connections
Second official: 2,900 connections
The community integration was for a tool we had never considered, built by a user who had never filed a ticket, never joined our community forum, and never attended a webinar. They had read our API docs, built the thing they needed, and published it. It became our most-used integration by 2.9x.
We had a partner program, a developer relations team, and a roadmap for integrations. None of them had produced the thing our users actually wanted. One person with a problem had.
We reached out, offered support, and made their integration official without changing it. We also started tracking API usage by unauthenticated developers — a signal we had never watched — and found 340 more people building things we did not know about.
Who is building on top of your product without telling you, and have you looked for them?
