My checklist before I write a single comment on a thread here. Three checks, no exceptions.

Built this over the last few weeks of putting the same effort into different threads and watching some go nowhere.

Check the OP's reply history first. If they never reply to anyone on their own thread, skip it, no matter how many comments it already has.

Check how old the thread is. Under two weeks, it's still building. Past that, it's either compounding or dead, and you can usually tell which.

If I'm the one starting a thread, put a real number in the first line. A thread with a concrete number in it has pulled more replies for me than the same idea asked as a flat question, consistently enough that I don't bother with the flat version anymore.

None of this is scientific, just what's held up for me. What's on your list before you comment or start a thread?
