Is it worth the promises that it subtly makes?

This year, I have observed three small SaaS companies roll out their roadmaps, and it's quite fascinating how it turned out. Two of them used the board to gather votes and ended up having a clear idea of what their customers wanted. However, the third one mentioned a "coming soon" feature in March, did not release anything until August, and got politely irked emails.

From my understanding, the difference is in the wording. The first two companies described the features as "exploring" or "next up" and never provided dates. The third one mentioned a quarter, which the readers took as a contract.

As a roadmapper, what would you add to your roadmap and what would you not add? Would love to hear from anyone who got rid of theirs and felt relieved.
