How do you make a "boring" category feel exciting?
Some product categories are naturally fun to talk about (AI video, dev tools, design tools, consumer apps). People understand the product and get excited pretty quickly.
But then there are categories that are important, useful, and valuable, but historically kind of boring. Things like analytics, internal tools, compliance, finance, HR software, etc.
I think about this a lot while building @Basedash. Business intelligence is not exactly the category most people associate with great taste, speed, or delightful UX. But the underlying problem is very real, and teams need to understand what’s happening in their business.
So the question is, is the category actually boring, or have most products in the category just been built in a boring way?
If you’re building in a "boring" category, how do you make it feel exciting without making it feel gimmicky?

the products aren't boring, the marketing is just soul-crushing. if you stop trying to sound ultra-polished and actually show the messy, real-world headaches you're solving, people will pay attention.
