Can we talk about the dark theme takeovers on event days? It's genuinely hard on the eyes
Not trying to just complain here, but this keeps happening and I don't think enough people are calling it out directly.
Every time there's a themed day, Vercel Day, Challenge Day, whatever the event of the week is, the entire homepage shifts into this dark, high contrast palette. And every time, browsing feels noticeably harder. Product cards blend together, text contrast gets inconsistent in places, and what's normally a quick scroll through launches turns into something that actually strains the eyes after a few minutes.
I get the intent. Themed branding for event days probably tests well internally, it signals "something special is happening today." But the actual user experience cost seems to get skipped in that decision. The core job of the homepage is still scanning and comparing products quickly, and a full dark takeover works against that, especially for anyone browsing during the day or on a bright screen.
A few things that would fix this without killing the event branding entirely:
Keep dark theme opt in, tie it to the user's existing light/dark preference instead of overriding it for everyone
Limit themed styling to a banner or header section, not the entire page background
If a full takeover is really necessary, at least add a toggle to switch back to default instantly
None of this needs to kill the celebratory feel of these event days, it just needs to stop being forced onto everyone regardless of preference.
Curious if others have felt the same friction, or if this is just me being sensitive to it.🤔

I'm still pretty new to PH so I haven't hit one of those event days yet, but this is really useful. I like dark mode myself, my Mac and iPhone are both on it. Still, I made my own product page switchable between dark and light. Reading this, I'm glad I let people choose. Thanks.
