Most finance apps make me anxious. I’m building a "silent" alternative—what am I missing?

Hi PH community,

I’m currently building Gap, a debt tracker designed to be a "silent mirror" rather than a loud coach.

The motivation came from a personal place: I was struggling with my own debt, but every app I tried felt like a casino—full of flashy charts, aggressive "reminders," and endless subscriptions. They were supposed to help, but they just made me want to close my eyes and ignore the problem.

The concept of Gap is simple:

  • A single "Open Ring" UI—the gap in the circle is your debt.

  • No ads, no data leaving your phone (privacy first).

  • A focus on the "Estimated End Date" rather than past failures.

I’m at a crossroads with the MVP and would love your honest input:

  1. Feature Fatigue: In a world of "super-apps," is there still a place for a tool that does only one thing well? Or will users eventually demand budgets, categories, and bank syncing?

  2. The "Silent" Approach: I’ve purposely avoided "motivational" notifications. Do you think users actually need that "nudge," or is the peace of mind of a quiet app more valuable?

  3. Visual Cues: Besides the closing ring, what other minimalist visual cues have helped you stay focused on long-term goals without feeling overwhelmed?

I’m not looking for "Great job!" comments—I genuinely want to know what would make a minimalist tool like this indispensable for you without breaking the "silence."

Can't wait to hear your thoughts!
