We built Friend because AI chats still feel too robotic 🤖💬
When we started working on Friend, we noticed something interesting.
Most AI tools are incredibly useful… but very few feel genuinely engaging to talk to.
You open a chatbot, ask a question, get an answer, and close the tab.
Functional? Yes.
Memorable? Not really.
So we started asking ourselves:
👉 What would an AI experience look like if it felt more like talking to a personality instead of operating software?
That idea became Friend.
The goal wasn’t just to make another chatbot. We wanted conversations to feel:
Spontaneous
Emotionally engaging
Playful
Sometimes surprising
A little more human
Along the way, we learned how difficult this space actually is.
If the AI is too formal, people get bored.
If it sounds too human, expectations become impossible.
If conversations feel repetitive, users leave quickly.
We spent countless hours refining tone, memory, interaction flow, and personality design to make the experience feel natural without becoming overwhelming.
One thing that surprised us during testing:
People didn’t only use Friend for productivity or questions. Many users opened it simply to talk, vent, joke around, or pass time during lonely moments.
That made us realize this category is bigger than “AI assistant tools.”
It’s about connection, entertainment, and interaction.
We know AI companionship products can be controversial and opinions will differ — but we believe conversational AI is still in its very early days, and we’re excited to keep exploring what meaningful AI interaction could look like.
We’d genuinely love your feedback ❤️
