Why 90% of Expiry Trackers Fail (and how I’m using AI to fix it) 🎙️

by

Hi Product Hunt community!

I’ve spent the last few months obsessing over a simple problem: Why is food waste still so high when everyone has a smartphone?

After talking to dozens of users, I realized the "villain" isn't forgetfulness—it's Input Friction. Most trackers require you to type in names, select dates from a picker, and assign categories manually. It feels like a second job.

That’s why I decided to build something different for my launch this Thursday. Here’s the approach I took:

  • AI-First Input: Instead of a keyboard, I integrated Google Gemini to handle voice commands. You just say, "Organic milk in the fridge, expires next Monday," and the AI structures the data instantly.

  • The PWA Advantage: I skipped the App Store. By building a high-performance PWA hosted on AWS, the app is lightning-fast and accessible via a simple URL.

  • Native Feel on iOS: Thanks to recent updates in Apple’s Web Push support, users get expiry alerts just like a native app, without the 200MB download.

I'm curious to hear from other devs and home organizers: Is voice the future of "boring" data entry, or is there a better way to kill the manual form?

I’d love to hear your thoughts before we go live on Thursday! 🚀
