Co-creator here. I was building a website for someone last summer and I REALLY didn't want to use WordPress, so my friend and I built forestry.io. Some highlights: • Supports all Jekyll plugins • Integrates with GitHub & Bitbucket (commits back to your repo) • Zero configuration for you project • Hosting not provided (deploy to S3, Github Pages, FTP) • Use Markdown or WYSIWYG I'd love to know what you think if the concept. Immediate feedback : Allowing import from github public url should be a quick way to start with. I found that missing.

Looks great but seems very similar to siteleaf.com are there any features that make it a more compelling option than site leaf?

I've been waiting for a Jekyll-based CMS for a long time now. I built my company's website using Jekyll years ago, but moved to WordPress because of the CMS capabilities. I may just end up back with Jekyll again soon and begin pimping out Forestry to my clients. Fantastic job, gentlemen!

Looks great, haven't tried though (only zip upload). I'm not too fond of giving Github private repo access. Given the fact that websites are public I don't see the need to have a private jekyll repo on Github anyway. Have you thought about making an Electron app out of this? edit: I'm currently hosting my jekyll sites with and it would be great to see this deploy option in Forestry as well

Literally just started to wanted to move away from my fully custom SSG build. However, I'm a Node person - is there any chance of adding a Node SSG import?
Also, what does Forestry actually build with? Does it continue with Hugo or Jekyll, or just import and use your system?

We will be adding support for new SSG's. We don't have a strict timeline set out yet though. What SSG are you using/would you like to see us implement?
Gatsby would be my first choice. I love and use Metalsmith, but it seems it is dying off so I don't think it would be wise to implement it. Trying to get away from it for that reason.
I absolutely love Forestry. The interface is intuitive and beautiful, the product is very easy to use, and it's a great alternative for people who want to use simpler and easier to understand static website generators, but still offer a CMS so clients and collaborators can work on the content.
