FlowSound - Auto-fade Apple Music when other apps play audio

by
FlowSound is a tiny open-source macOS menu bar app that fades and pauses Apple Music when other apps start playing audio, then restores it when things become quiet again. It runs locally, has no analytics, and clearly explains the permissions it needs.

Hi Product Hunt, I built FlowSound because I kept running into a small but annoying problem: Apple Music is great as background music, but it does not know when to step aside. When I open a YouTube video, join a call, or play audio from another app, I usually have to manually lower or pause Apple Music, then bring it back later. FlowSound handles that little context switch for me. It lives in the macOS menu bar, detects when other apps are producing audio, fades and pauses Apple Music, then restores it when things become quiet again. I wanted this to feel simple, fresh, and safe: - Open source - Local-first - No analytics - No audio uploads - No server - Clear permission explanations - Built for macOS 26+ It currently supports Apple Music only. This is not a commercial project. I built it because I had the problem myself, and I hope it helps other people who use Apple Music as background music while working, browsing, or watching videos.
