We built Drive on Next.js 16 and deployed it on Vercel, and the piece that changed the product most was Vercel Cron Jobs. Two lines in vercel.json gave us scheduled background work without a separate worker or queue. A nightly job empties trash older than 30 days, and another cleans up orphaned files in your bucket. That's why we could promise "your files, your S3/R2 bucket" and keep it tidy without charging you for storage you've stopped using.
