Dotient v0.2.4 is a total UI upgrade.

UI

  • New search bar design

  • lower contrast sidebar to put less stress on your eyes

  • feels very cozy!

Features

  • Raw image support (.arw, .cr2, .crw, .dng, .nef, and .raw)

  • Photoshop file support (.psd)

  • New Model! (Pupil-1, it is way faster and less resource heavy than the first model)

  • Embedding speed settings (gentle, medium, and full power)

  • Original PDF Colors customization

  • And probably more that i forgot I added

Bug fixes

  • Fixed incorrect archive loading (dotient now correctly loads the selected archive)

  • Fixed macOS import crashes (resolved Tokio thread panic issues when importing files)

  • Fixed crashes when closing dotient (improved stability when exiting the application)

  • Fixed additional stability issues

switching the underlying model (Pupil-1) is the interesting one to me - does that mean existing libraries need to re-embed everything to actually benefit from the speed gain, or does it only apply going forward to newly imported files? asking because re-indexing a huge photo archive on a model swap is the kind of thing that quietly scares people off updating

 Sadly theres no other way to do it. However, for starters, the embeddings you already had on the other model stay, they aren't going anywhere. BUT, if you want to search your files with the other model then you do have to reembed the entire archive. Or you can simply activate the model and only have future imported files be embedded, but your previous files wont be easily searchable. It's just the one flaw with embedding models

 makes sense, that's a fair tradeoff to lay out honestly. guess the sane move for most people is switching over for new imports and only doing a full reembed on the folders where the accuracy actually matters

A lower contrast sidebar is such a thoughtful touch-anything that reduces eye strain during long sessions is a massive win in my book. Love that you described it as 'cozy'! The Pupil-1 model being less resource-heavy sounds awesome too.

The UI feels cozy without looking boring, which is surprisingly hard to pull off. I appreciate that you focused on usability instead of just flashy visuals. Nice work

I love seeing bug-fix updates that are actually meaningful. Fixing archive loading and those macOS crashes probably saved a lot of people from frustration. what was the trickiest bug to track down?

Every update seems to make Dotient feel more professional. PSD support was already enough to get me excited, but pairing it with a faster model is even better. Which feature has received the best feedback from users so far?
