DockDuck 1.1.8 is out 🎉

by•

This release is about finding things: a search that answers while you type, folders that open the way you left them, and the other computers on your network in one place.

A new search, built for speed

DockDuck now keeps its own list of your files' names, so results appear while you type and no longer wait for Spotlight. The best match comes first, and it learns from what you open. Several words can match along the path: "clients invoice" finds the invoice inside the Clients folder. External drives are included while they are connected, and apps are found by name.

A menu under the search field helps while you type. Choose between names and what is inside files, pick this folder or the whole Mac, and add a kind, a date, a size or a tag in one click. Every active filter shows as a chip in the field, and Backspace removes the last one. Filters work on their own, too: pick Images and Past 7 days without typing a word.

Each result says where it is, and the bar at the bottom shows the whole path of what you select. Click any part of it to go there. Save a search and it stays in the sidebar, running again each time you open it. Searching while you are on an FTP or SFTP server looks through its folders by name.

Each folder remembers its view

Leave Downloads as a list and Pictures as icons, and each one opens that way the next time, with its sorting and column widths. A folder you rename or move inside DockDuck keeps its view. You can turn this off in Settings.

A new Network page

Your computers are on the left and the shared folders of the one you pick are on the right, as tiles or as a list. Each share shows once, with its free space, and you can open it, eject it, edit it or forget it from there. Eject All disconnects a whole computer at once, and Connect As signs in with another name.

Themes

Settings has 29 color themes for the whole window, light and dark. Folders take the color of the theme, and the built-in terminal follows it as well.

Copies you can trust

DockDuck can read every copy back and compare it with the original. By default it does so for external drives and network shares, and Settings lets you choose always or never. When you copy or move a folder onto one with the same name, you can now merge them instead of replacing one with the other.

More to do on a server

Import Servers reads the sites saved in FileZilla and the hosts in your SSH config, so you do not type them again. Open a file that lives on a server, change it, save, and DockDuck sends it back. If the file changed on the server in the meantime, DockDuck tells you.

A transfer that fails can be retried and continues from what was already sent. There is a speed limit for server transfers, so the rest of your connection stays free, and a Test button that tells you whether a connection works before you save it. Get Info on a server file lets you change who can read and write it.

Smaller things

The icon view has a slider for the icon size, and you can set the spacing, the text size and where the name goes. A compact folder header puts the name, the filters and the sorting on one line, which leaves more room for your files. DockDuck now speaks 19 languages, with Indonesian, Polish, Norwegian and Finnish added. The shortcut that opens a new window from any app is now Control+Option+Command+E, because the old one took a key that many keyboards use to type an accent. And through November 2 the Dock icon dresses up for Halloween, with three to choose from.
