My wife kept losing track of her best recipe versions, so I built something for it

My wife cooks a lot, and she'd tweak the same recipe over and over trying to get it just right, "a little less sugar this time", "five more minutes in the oven next time". The problem was she could never remember which version actually worked. She'd just overwrite her notes each time, or try to remember.

That's basically the whole reason I started building Cook Journal. every time you cook something again and change it, it saves that attempt as its own version instead of overwriting the last one. You can rate each try, leave a quick note on what you changed, and compare two side by side.

It's live now on iOS and Android if anyone wants to poke around.
But I am curious for those of you who cook a lot, how do you currently keep track of a recipe once you start adjusting it? Notes app, memory, a notebook? Would love to hear how other people handle this.

Cook Journal - Your cozy digital recipe book & meal planner

Most recipe apps treat a recipe as a finished document. Cook Journal treats it like a journal entry — rate each attempt, leave a note on what changed, and compare two versions side by side. Plus: paste in a recipe straight from Instagram, TikTok, or any website, no retyping.
