Chessstack - Master Your Chess Openings

by•
Chessstack is a chess repertoire builder and opening trainer. Build your repertoire move by move using master games, Lichess rating stats and Stockfish, then drill it with spaced repetition so you never forget a line. Practice your lines against a computer that plays like real opponents, prepare for specific opponents, and check your Lichess or Chess.com games against your prep. Free with one repertoire, or unlimited for $1/month or $10/year. Open source (AGPL) and self-hostable with Docker.

Hi Product Hunt! I'm Kevin, and I built Chessstack. I've been playing chess for about three years (around 1800 on Chess.com, 1500 over the board), and I kept looking for a tool to study my openings. The course-based ones wanted me to learn someone else's repertoire, and the free ones let me build my own lines but didn't help me remember them. So I tried building the tool I wanted. My background is IT infrastructure, not software development, so this has been a big learning project, done on nights and weekends. Here's what it does: - Build your own repertoire on a board, with master games, how often each move is played at your rating, and Stockfish evaluations to guide you - Drill it with spaced repetition, so lines you know come up less and lines you miss come back sooner - Practice your openings against a computer that plays like real opponents - Look up any Lichess or Chess.com player before a game and see what they play - Import your own games and see exactly where you or your opponent left your prep It's free with one repertoire, and $1/month or $10/year for unlimited. It's also open source, so you can self-host it with Docker if you prefer. I'd love to hear what you think, especially what's confusing or missing. What tool do you use to study openings today?
