Hi everyone, I'm Hova ๐Ÿ‘‹ co-founder and CTO of Canopy. Canopy crowdfunds independent lab tests of everyday consumer products for contaminants like lead, cadmium, and arsenic โ€” and puts all the data in the open: results, methodology, raw numbers. I built it because manufacturers mostly aren't required to test for these contaminants, and aren't required to share results when they do. Consumer Reports and EWG do great work, but they can only cover so much. So the idea is simple: you vote on what gets tested, and every result gets published โ€” boring or alarming, no money from manufacturers. The part I care most about is making the numbers mean something. A raw figure like "0.4 ยตg/serving of arsenic" is meaningless without context (inorganic and organic arsenic are different!), and the reference you pick changes everything. So instead of a vibes-based letter grade, Canopy computes a Hazard Quotient against an explicit, sourced threshold and shows the work. The model: members vote โ†’ campaigns fund via Stripe Connect โ†’ we buy products anonymously at retail โ†’ send them to accredited labs โ†’ publish everything. Built with Next.js, Supabase, Stripe Connect, and Vercel. Would love your feedback, and I'll be here all day answering questions!
