For freelancers/indie hackers with variable income — how do you currently handle budgeting?

Our team is deep in validating a product for people with variable income (freelancers, consultants, creators, indie devs) — the core idea is replacing a full budget system with a single daily number: what you can safely spend right now, recalculated automatically as income comes in.

Before we go further, genuinely curious how this community currently handles it. Spreadsheet? YNAB? A percentage rule you stick to manually? Or honestly just... not budgeting at all and hoping for the best?
