Write the story you couldn’t quite find the words to complete with this easy to use OpenAI model. Input 40 words to start, and watch what the model comes up with. It’s powered by the GPT-2 774M model released on August 20th 2019 by OpenAI.

Hey there, Product Hunters! I’m Vittorio, I’ve made StoryAI in my spare time. I hope you’ll like it! It’s an easy way to try out the powerful A.I. models that Elon Musk-funded OpenAI has released in open source. So far, users have prompted the AI to create news articles (“President Trump is buying Greenland in a surprise deal. Cool, i saw that some stories are non-english and become gibberish, what's your solution to this?

The GPT-2 model was trained on English content by the OpenAI team. If they release other models for other languages, then we could put them up too. For now, I would use it with english to achieve the best results
I like the concept. I have tried 5-6 story ideas 30min ago, haven't received anything yet. How long does it take?

Idea is great but it is taking more than 4 minutes to generate the story. I hope you will make it more efficient in future.

I am very interested in the technology. Though, I am not sure how your tool is helping anybody... What is the idea behind it? Who is should use it and for what? I could see some benefit, if there was the possibility to not share it. That would mean that I could use it in some way. Right now the only reason I can see is that people can test this technology.

thanks for the feedback! Anyone can use it, it’s an opportunity for non-technical people to play with modern A.I. We want anyone to be able to use first-hand the powerful technology that the AI community is open sourcing.
Ok, cool. In this case... that makes total sense :) How hard would it be to do that for another language?

you need lots of data to create those models. We are using the 774M parameters model opensourced by OpenAI. To train on a new language, you need both $$ and data

SO, I am coming back with a comment. It looks like there is a a big challenge ahead of this tool, as it looks like each story starts good but shortly after that it breaks and the bot starts talking about a completely different topic. My text was a dry bussines text, first lines from Story AI looked good but then all of a sudden AI started talking about League of Legends ("Welcome to Part Two of our 5 part series on the most overlooked elements of League of Legends.") ??. After that it continues with some mambo jumbo...and thats it.

interesting. Can you link your story? I've seen that happening for certain prompts more than for others. For example, news stories seem to perform better than technical essays - in that, they stay consistent for longer
I also noticed this. It starts really strong then becomes a bit incoherent after a while. Still, really impressive.
here you go. I tried something else. I decided to write a start of the story that wont be techical and it wont be a news story. Sort of "day in the nature" type of the thing. I used a couple of words in my intro (cottage, mountain,sun) to make AI clearly understand what the story would be about (nature) and it delivered better results. It does have inconsistencies, but overall it is not a bad text.

Interesting. I feel like it's less effective with 'Medium style' generic blog posts, but if you try more technical things - like a math dissertation - then the A.I. has an easier time in remaining consistent

How many words will final document have? What is the max number of words?

I suggest to use at least 40 words to prompt a good response. The final document will be around a page worth of content. You can check any story already created for reference, for example
I used to think creativity was our moat against the machines. After reading a few of these stories, I don't think the moat will last much longer.

I was surprised too. But maybe it just becomes an arms race? Kind of, the humans will need to get waaay more creative to compete?
