Why do onboarding tools get more expensive exactly when you're winning?

by•

We've been building in the customer onboarding space for a while now, and there's one thing that never stopped bothering us: almost every tool in this category charges you by MAU.

Think about that for a second. The moment your product actually starts working, the moment more people sign up and activate, is the exact moment your onboarding tool gets more expensive. You get punished for the thing you're supposed to be optimizing for.

We've talked to a lot of founders and CX leads about this, and most just accept it as "how the category works." But we don't think it has to be that way.

Curious to hear from this community:

- If you're using an onboarding or CX tool today, does the pricing model actually match how you use it, or does it just quietly get worse as you grow?

- What's the most manual, "we said this was AI but it's really just us configuring a flow chart" moment you've had with one of these tools?

- If an agent could actually take actions inside your product instead of just showing tooltips, what's the first thing you'd want it to handle?

We're launching something on September 30th built entirely around fixing this, and we'd genuinely love to hear how this problem shows up for you before we do. Happy to dig into details in the comments.
