A secure open-source backend server provides the core APIs required to build web and mobile applications. Appwrite provides authentication, database, storage, functions, and advanced realtime capabilities.
Love the product from day 1 (since 0.10 I think !)
It helped us build https://thumbup.tech focusing most of our effort on the front and (almost) letting appwrite do the heavy work backend side.
We loved especially how functions work. It's basically where you can put all your backend logic in. So far we haven't been limited in using functions.
Kudos to the Appwrite community on github which is super responsive, kind & helpful !
Kudos to @eldad_fux for starting this project !
@eldad_fux@elsuperseby Wow your product looks amazing. And so proud that Appwrite helped build it. Thank you for using Appwrite and helping Appwrite become better.
@eldad_fux@meldiron Flabbergasted nothing less? :) Thank you! We just developped what think was missing in tech recruitment : a simple way to receive & apply to job then talk directly to a recruiter without hassles.
Upvotes always welcome ! https://www.producthunt.com/prod...
And again, would not have been about to launch the product without Appwrite !
Hi there, it’s Eldad from the Appwrite team 👋
App development is complex and repetitive. Creating modern applications requires a ton of different skills and has a huge learning curve. I started working on Appwrite in 2019 to abstract the complexity of software development so I can focus on creating value, and more importantly, have fun writing code.
As someone who started their software engineering journey in the open-source community, I always wanted to find a way to contribute back to the community. This encouraged me to publish Appwrite on GitHub later that year.
To my amazement, the project immediately started trending on GitHub, and a community formed around it. Three years later, thanks to the help of a growing community of +200k members, we’re officially announcing Appwrite. I couldn’t have done it alone.
Appwrite is a secure backend server that provides the core APIs required to build modern applications. Appwrite provides authentication, database, storage, functions, and advanced real-time capabilities.
Appwrite is built to meet developers where they are. Appwrite supports 24 runtimes and 11 different programming languages with 12 different SDKs. Developers and teams can stick with the tech stack they are already comfortable with. Appwrite also has support for a variety of adapters for authentication, storage, databases, messaging, and logging.
Appwrite is designed to be easy to start and quick to grow. Developer experience is at the heart of what we do. From the way, we designed our docs, through our SDKs and integrations, the consistency of our APIs, and the intense discussions we hold with our community about naming conventions. The developer’s journey is always at the top of our minds.
You can self-host Appwrite with a single command anywhere and have full control over your data and your user’s privacy.
This is just the beginning for Appwrite. We believe Appwrite has tremendous potential to make developers' lives easier in even more ways. Here’s a sneak peek at some features we’re currently working towards: MongoDB and PostgreSQL adaptors, GraphQL support, more flexible queries and relations, geolocation data and querying, push notifications, and offline sync.
We’re excited to hear about your feedback and see you in the Appwrite community!
You can learn more about what Appwrite can do for you here:

Appwrite is the collective creation of every community member. It doesn’t matter if you’ve submitted a pull request, shared your frustration or love, or recommended Appwrite to your peers, you all helped us reach this major milestone. We are all making Appwrite better - together.
Unfortunately, we could not add everyone as Makers on Product Hunt, so we created this special page as a gesture of our appreciation: https://appwrite.io/thankyou.txt
You are also welcome to claim your special Appwrite Maker card: https://makers.appwrite.io/
@fares_aktouf@eldad_fux@agent_joons Hey there 👋 We're working on the Appwrite Cloud as we speak.
Very soon we'd be opening up the Cloud for a select group of users that have expressed interest.
If you'd like to be included in the list, please drop in your details here

@mrkrishnaagarwal Unfortunately, we could not add everyone as Makers on Product Hunt, so we created this special page as a gesture of our appreciation: https://appwrite.io/thankyou.txt you can find your name on the list!
You are also welcome to claim your special Appwrite Maker card: https://makers.appwrite.io/
@mrkrishnaagarwal Hey Krishna thank you so much for being an active supporter of the Appwrite project. We are super grateful.
We received over 800 submissions for makers and ran into some ProductHunt limitations when trying to add all of them. However, we've created a page on Appwrite that will forever list the makes of Appwrite! You can check it out here
https://appwrite.io/thankyou.txt
Congratz to the release! This is so incredible!!
@mrkrishnaagarwal@christy_jacob1 I find myself missing on the thankyou.txt . Are you still adding the missing ones or have you forgottan me? 😢
@mrkrishnaagarwal@leon_budnick Hey Leon, you can continue to fill up the form that was sent via email. We will update the thankyou.txt list once again :)
@matus_fercak Thank you so much! Functions are my favourite feature too!! What's your favourite function runtime and how do you like the experience with the Appwrite CLI ?
@matus_fercak That sounds wonderful!! We're bringing some awesome improvements to functions very soon and we hope you'll love them. We're just getting started 🤩
@eldad_fux I am the guy from Reddit you shared my comment with your team and the guy who is on your Discord for last year and a half yet never tried :D :D But thanks for another invite :D
Been a huge supporter of Appwrite for over a year, championing it even at the companies I was working at. Their community is second-to-none (the envy of other BaaS services on the market), speed of feature release is exceptional, and the support in their Discord is incredible. This will be one of the key pillars of the future dev world - @eldad_fux and team are going to go far!
@bradley_schofield I'm confident you, the team and the community won't at all. So much so, I've doubled down and committed my next two prod apps to be 100% appwrite, after careful experimentation with Supabase, Firebase and Amplify. Full faith in you guys!
@eldad_fux Absolutely smashing it mate, thanks for bringing this gem into the world! Best of luck today, and here's to many more years of Appwrite success!
@binay_singh2 Thanks for the kind words! ❤️ Appwrite follows REST API standards, so communication should be a piece of cake. Even better, we have many SDKs, so you can use your favorite language to code Appwrite applications. You can learn more about both SDK and non-SDK communication here: https://appwrite.io/docs/sdks
@rahman_ramsi Thank you so much, this our collective effort. Building in public with the open source community has been a life changing experience for us!
@davidlarge Hi David 👋, I spoke at the conference about building a blogging site with Appwrite and Hugo! Glad to know that you remember about Appwrite! :)
I just migrated a project from Firebase to Appwrite: Authentication, Users, Databases and Storage. And I can't be more in love with it. Just awesome how it is build and also presented to the user. Great UI too. So simple and with lots of features. Stop reading this, just go and try!!
Many congratulations, Appwrite team, for the Product Hunt launch. It's great to see such a powerful open-source product. Indeed, it is a great choice for the backend. ❤️
@swapnilmmane Thanks a lot Swapnil! Appwrite 1.0 is a result of the combined efforts from the community. We're extremely grateful and proud to get here!
@swapnilmmane I am really glad you enjoy using Appwrite 🎉 Make sure to join our Discord community to stay up to date with everything we work on: https://appwrite.io/discord
@swapnilmmane Thank you so much, Swapnil! 😄
Quick question, have you had a chance to try out Appwrite already? Any particular service you love working with or are looking forward to trying out?
@ali_muhammad3 Thank you ❤️ Don't forget to join us on Discord: https://appwrite.io/discord we'd love to chat more and see what you might be able to build with Appwrite!
@daniel_engels I am glad to hear that! 😍 I love the Appwrite permission system as it makes it really simple and a matter of a few checkboxes. I can confidently say my Appwrite applications are secure.
@daniel_engels Out of all the things I have running on my local servers, Appwrite is one of the only things I trust being exposed to the internet because I can see all the security and effort that goes into it just by taking a glance at the code. 🔐
