Unfortunately, you must have an Echo or Fire TV with which to order a Dot. However, it doesn't appear that an Echo is required to actually use a Dot (looking at System Requirements on Amazon)... can anyone confirm that? If that's the case, isn't that a little odd? Sadly, I'm on that #lawstudentbudget for a little while longer, so $180 is a little cost-prohibitive for me at the moment! :)

Don't get me wrong - big fan of all this and plan on indulging in all this as soon as possible - but I want Dot this weekend!

@andym_dc I hope that you don't need Echo to use Dot. If so, then that's just a turn off.

@steftheo11 @andym_dc The Dot is completely standalone. :) You can order the Dot without an Echo, check out the top comment in this post or use the native Amazon app to add the Dot to cart.

"Limit one per order, two per customer" So I have to ask Alexa twice to order two? Ain't nobody got time for that. And we'll need more than two in the GoLocalApps homestead. The Batcave underneath will need 4 just so I don't have to yell when I need to check the weather before going out to fight crime at night.

@sacbookreviewer Order it via the mobile app. You don't need Echo to order Dot.

3.5mm Audio out included, this could be very useful for playing music through your receiver etc

The Amazon Echo is the only device since the smartphone that has really changed the way I go about my day to day. Wake up to Echo alarm, listen to Flash Brief as I get ready for work, ask about the weather > Go to work > Come Home > Set timer for oven, set morning alarms, turn on Pandora, > Sleep > Repeat, All with my voice.

I thought this was a entry level Amazon echo but it's a shame you actually need an Amazon echo to order it.

Got it; like it. As expected, less functional in a noisy environment. Bluetooth-to-speaker works well. Can choose among 3 names to avoid confusing the 2 resident Alexas! Hooray.

The Echo is a great product, this is just next level. Let Amazon take over your home...

So if you already have an Echo, add a Dot, and ask Alexa a question, will you get an Echo...echo? Curious to see how this integrates with existing Echoes/additional Dots.
Mike Ziegler
Oh! And an audio output port on the Dot is a great addition over the Echo!

This and the Amazon Tap are awesome additions to the Echo family. Man, I wish I could have a Tap instead of an Echo now...

Is it a $90 mic to talk to Echo from another room?
Andy Kim
@_yannbertrand It's a standalone product
Yann Bertrand
@drew23 I don't get it. Is that an Echo upgrade?
Andy Kim
@_yannbertrand the idea was to offer a miniaturized Echo that allows customers to utilize their existing high end speakers but yet allow standalone usage within non communal spaces
