What is PH for you?

A few years ago, when I have just created my PH account, I thought that it is more like a place for startups and idea validation. But now for the last 2 months of everyday PH checking, I've noticed, that there are a lot of well-known products which have been launched just for fun. E.g. new models of mobile phones, well-known games, and technologies. What do you think? Should the PH have more sharp serious moderation or it is an open-minded place for any idea and product?

i think it's good to have platform for new apps, products, or services to gain recognition on regardless the idea or concept- but to a point.

@richw I agree, but is it fair to compete for a small startup with well-known brand on the same day?
Launching soon!
I believe that PH should allow any idea or product to be listed because it is one of the best places for anyone to showcase their product and receive instant feedback. Moderating product listings will eliminate a significant number of products that you or I don't consider viable.

@qudsia_ali maybe PH should be divided in 2 sectors, like physical products, like phones, backpacks and digital products?

That's true. Through the years, the platform has evolved into much more than a startup launch/feedback website. There are several categories that make it easy to find products and it is now a valuable database. There are many many failures as well, there could be an opportunity for learning from these. In terms of larger companies posting, I think it is a one-off thing. I haven't seen bigger companies actively pursue Product Hunt as a channel for feedback/traction. And regardless of the company behind the product, I believe the quality and value of the product is what the community rewards. And if it's a more established company, there maybe many more users for their product, and thus the new product/feature being launched would also attract good traction. I don't think there is any necessary distinction required between physical and digital products. Again, since most products I see here are digital products.

@olivier_toledano What kind of challenge do you mean? Can you give an example please.

@maksym_astakhov We test a lot of growth hacking methods for our start-up. PH is full of very useful feedbacks. It allows us to compare and challenge our initiatives (engagement, social media, cold calling...) .

@maksym_astakhov @olivier_toledano Super interesting way to engage the community. Are you generally posting and inviting feedback on ideas and approaches, or are you launching growth tests and inviting people to take part? Love this way of thinking about PH!

@maksym_astakhov @brenna_donoghue I am just a beginner on PH. So, for the moment, I am content to consult, post and read the feedback
